Formic Pro Varroa Treatment

SKU: FH06013 Categories: All Products, AP, Feed & Health, Products, Treatments
€22.80

Formicpro is a fast and easy-to-apply varroa treatment for colonies suffering from varroa.

The treatment utilizes formic acid as its active component. Each box contains packs of two strips which should be separated from each other, but the eco-paper wrap should NOT be removed. This acts as a wick to control the release of formic acid into the hive.

Application Instructions:

  • Placement: Lay the strips flat across the brood frames from opposite sides, ensuring they cover most of the brood nest. Use two strips per hive, regardless of whether it is a single or double brood configuration. For double brood setups, place the strips on the top frames of the lower box.
  • Supers must be removed before applying the treatment.
  • Galvanized Materials: Note that galvanised steel components, such as roof metals or excluders, may rust or tarnish due to the acid fumes as they exit the hive through cone escapes or roof vents. This corrosion can spread from the initial points of deterioration.

Temperature and Conditions for Use:

  • Temperature Range: Apply the strips when the temperature is between 10°C and 29.5°C.
  • Weather: Ensure a forecast of three consecutive dry days.
  • Hive Conditions: The hive should have at least 10,000 bees or 6 frames of robust brood. Keep the entrance fully open for proper ventilation.

Treatment Duration and Effects:

  • Duration: Leave the strips in place for 7 days, then remove them before reattaching any supers.
  • Release Period: Most formic acid will be released within the first 3 to 4 days.
  • Bee and Brood Impact: Initial losses, particularly of young uncapped brood, may occur within the first few days. A temporary brood break of three days is typical, with an increase in egg laying observed by day 14 post-treatment. It is recommended to check mite levels both before and after application.

Shelf Life:

Formicpro® offers a substantial shelf life of 24 months, making it convenient for future use if not all strips are required immediately.
