Each treatment requires the use of 2 strips meaning that each pack will treat six hives. Strips are 210x40mm wide and therefore fit neatly between the frames without having to be cut or bent. The active ingredient is Amitraz which paralyzes the varroa mite causing it to fall off the bees. The varroa mite then dies due to starvation as a result of this paralysis. The active ingredient is spread into the colony from one bee to another by contact.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOne single application of Apivar has efficacy of up to 99% and there are no temperature constraints as there are with most other varroa treatments. It can therefore be used at any time of year, although \u003cstrong\u003esupers must not be on the hives\u003c\/strong\u003e. The strips should be left in for between \u003cstrong\u003e6 and 10 weeks\u003c\/strong\u003e, depending on the size of the brood and the time of year.
